Hello, I'm Karin
And I am a person who celebrates what life has to offer, takes calculated risks, generates ideas and has always been a pioneer. In my coaching, in the breadth of industries, I have been lucky enough to work in and in my general outlook on life.
The Value of Coaching
It's 1989 during the Sydney to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race, and I am straddling water in the second most shark-infested waters off the coast of Australia, watching my yacht sail off without me.
All I observe, in slow motion, is a life ring being thrown, followed by a well-oiled team who knew exactly what to do due to the expert coaching, strong leadership and practice that went on long before this crisis. Cooperation is king as they move into the well-rehearsed man overboard search and rescue routine. Clearly, I survived to tell the tale.
Every high-performing individual and team enjoy a coach who can bring the best out of them, particularly in high-pressure situations. I saw this first-hand.
A Life of Transition, Teamwork and Leadership
I have 30 years of experience as a leader in both large and small organisations and across a multitude of disciplines, from co-leading expeditions in Antarctica, working offshore on oil rigs, training in the corporate IT world, and even, once upon a time, - nursing. And, having lived on five continents, including Australia (origins), Hong Kong (in the heydays), South America (on a yacht), South Africa (personal growth) and now the Highlands of Scotland (new beginnings), I come to you with a broad and deep understanding of people, behaviours and communication styles.
So What?
All of this means that I have walked in your managerial shoes and experienced the pain and joy of transitioning many times. I have often been promoted into leadership roles for having strong team, technical and service abilities; I have been flown around the world on planes and helicopters, on and off oil rigs as a high-hazard industry Safety Leadership Coach, and as Chief Mate of a yacht in and around Antarctica and South America. All these experiences involved teamwork, communication and leadership that changed me forever.
I also understand what it means to make a difference in one's work by implementing successful systems and processes, winning that particular client, developing highly successful teams, transforming that awkward conversation, enjoying that meeting with your boss when your ideas were taken seriously and even employing the right person for the job. Or when someone in their exit interview states, you are the best boss I ever had! Wow! These are some of my best memories.
Leadership Through Cooperation
To succeed in any transitional situation, you need a support network. A skilled and experienced coach and mentor who knows first-hand that cooperation is the key to your success. In the high density of challenging situations I have found myself in, having transformational conversations – not just conversations, understanding your personal compass and demonstrating emotional intelligence are strategies that truly successful leaders employ all the time. I can help you achieve that. In addition, my coaching studies have helped bring theory and tools to a lifetime of practice.
And now, over to you.
- What does success look like to you?
- What are your aspirations?
- What are you looking to get out of your current position or promotion?
- Which transformational conversations do you need to have to move forward?
If you're interested in finding out more about my coaching style, life experience and how I can help ~ it all starts with a conversation so Let's Talk.
I look forward to hearing from you.
